Proudly, celebrating its 13th year, Postpartum Place has helped thousands of women with concerns related to their new babies. Formerly known as the Lactation Resource Center located on Watchung Avenue, newly named Postpartum Place now calls a beautiful Victorian at 55 Main Street, Chatham - home.
The idea for such a center was conceived by Maria Parlapiano RN, IBCLC in direct reaction to the implementation of early hospital discharge for newly delivered mothers during the early 1990’s. Prior to that, mothers stayed in the hospital up to a week after delivery. Suddenly, they were discharged in 24-48 hrs forced to face challenges, such as breastfeeding, without help or adequate support.
“Our goal is to ease the worry which can often accompany bringing home a newborn by offering timely advise and creative solutions,” says Maria, “resulting in a positive experience for everyone involved.” Their trained professionals understand the unique needs of each mother and baby, simply guiding them through such issues as discomfort, milk supply problems, sleep concerns, infant weight gain, starting solid foods, pumping and working and finally weaning.
As soon as you enter the door of Postpartum Place you realize you are someplace very special. Greeted by the friendly, professional staff in their warm, homey environment the expectant or new family feels comfortable and relaxed. It’s welcoming atmosphere allows pregnant women and new parents the ability to connect with one another, gain new knowledge, and get the help they need. Only PPP provides all the essential breastfeeding and baby products, services, and support that new parents and babies need during this important time of life, all in one convenient spot.
The PPP invites all those whose lives are touched by the arrival of a new baby; mothers, fathers, and partners; grandparents and siblings, caregivers and friends. It’s a place to find proven and helpful products and share the experiences, challenges and joys of caring for a new baby.
The reputable staff offers expert advice and assistance to compliment the care clients already receive from their health care providers. The Board Certified Lactation Consultants are also Registered Nurses who bring with them over 20 years of experience working with mothers and babies.
“The physical and emotional health and well being of both moms and their babies is our primary focus,” states owner, Maria Parlapiano RN, IBCLC, “Our vision is to provide new and expectant parents with the assistance and support needed during this special and often challenging time of life.”
New Jersey is fortunate to have this unique “one-stop” center, the premier company of its kind in the tri-state area. Whether your struggling with nursing, just have a simple question or need some supplies, visiting the PPP is a necessity for new and expectant parents. It is a special place for a special time!
